Native Woodland Definitions & Guidance (Northern Ireland Native Woodland Group 2008)

Summary:

Establishing new areas of native woodland in the landscape, and planting native trees within established forests, will protect native woodland habitats and species. Planting new native woodland can create links between isolated woods, increase their resilience, and provide opportunities for colonisation by native woodland flora and fauna. Increasing the area of native woodland is an important element of the Northern Ireland Biodiversity Strategy. This booklet is intended to inform and advise foresters, ecologists and conservationists with an interest in native trees and native woodlands.
