Iniscarn Forest

Iniscarn Forest is a small wood consisting of just over 130 hectares lying to the west of Desertmartin village. The forest area is made up of various conifer species and approximately 4 hectares of mature hardwoods mostly oak.

There is a small network of forest roads, which lead up to a moorland path. This path leads to the mast at the summit of slieve galleon. From here there are panoramic views of counties Antrim, Derry and Down.

Iniscarn contains many species of birds and animals. Buzzards can be seen in springtime displaying over the mature hardwood areas. And occasionally Hen harrier can be spotted hunting on the open moorland adjacent to the forest.

How to get there

Situated off the A29 Tobermore to Moneymore road. As you reach the village of Desert martin take the left turn before the shop. Following this road for 5km till you come to a T-junction. Turn left and the forest is 0.5km on the right. Parking is at the forest entrance.

The forest is open every day of the year from 8.00am until sunset. Admission is free.
