Cam Forest
Cam Forest covers a total of just over 1 300 hectares about 9km east of Limavady, straddling the North Sperrins ridge. It consists mainly of conifer species such as Sitka & Norway spruce, larch and Lodgepole pine. It is further highlighted by being the forest surrounding the large Rigged Hill windfarm managed by B9.
Recreation in Cam is particularly suitable for those wanting good access through largely unspoilt forests: the Ulster Way takes advantage of the forest roads in Cam, and meanders through the forest for approximately 6 km.
There is a small horse riding trail consisting of two main loops, one being 3.7 km and the other 5.4 km, which combined gives Forest Service Permit Holders over 9 km of horse trails off public roads. These pursuits are highlighted by the annual 'Wo/man v Bike v Horse' charity event staged each December.
Even with all of the recreational uses above, the forest still contains a multitude of wildlife from badgers and squirrels to kestrels and buzzards. All this from a forest that has provided over 150,000 tonnes of timber for the wood industry in recent years.
