Learmount Forest- Saturday 17 September, 2pm – 4pm.

This Saturday come to the Old School House at Learmount Forest and learn about the Red Squirrels. The lessons will not be boring! You will be able to make a squirrel mask, and do squirrel puzzles. You can find out what a squirrel eats and where it lives. If the weather is good you can do a squirrel scavenger hunt in the forest. And if you are brave you can try the feely boxes!

Red squirrels are regularly spotted in the forest. We can’t guarantee that the squirrels will be about during these events, but we can show signs of where the squirrels have been. By learning more about the red squirrels and the challenges they face you should be more able to track them in the forest environment.

These endangered animals are struggling to survive against the pressures of the invading grey squirrel, and the loss of suitable forests to live in. Red squirrel conservation is a component of the Sustainable Forest Management strategy that underpins all Forest Service activities and planning. We can better protect this lovely native creature by learning how it lives, and what it needs to survive.
